What is physie?

Play Physical Culture Promotional Video

Physical Culture, which is often called Physie, is a great sport for girls and women of all ages.

Junior classes cater for young girls ranging in age from four to thirteen years, senior classes are for those aged fourteen and over and we also have ladies classes.

Lessons are choreographed to music and follow a carefully structured syllabus. There are different degrees of difficulty for the age groups. The senior classes do a cardio-funk warm up and higher impact work.

Exercises for all ages are designed to enhance flexibility, strength, agility, poise and deportment.

Children especially benefit by improving their coordination, concentration, balance and stamina.

All this while having fun.....

Components of Physical Culture

Warm up and Deportment

A set routine of movements promoting correct posture and improved coordination of arm and leg movements. The routine also includes marching.

Breathing Group

The function of this exercise is to control and improve the respiratory system.

Exercise Group

This is designed to work the trunk area of the body, together with the head and arms. This exercise improves coordination and balance and helps to develop strength in leg muscles.

Relaxed

These exercises are based on the principle of rhythmical movement. The pace is quite slow, thus encouraging graceful flowing movements, which gives the participant a feeling of realease and relaxation.

Floordrills

Are executed in the sitting, kneeling or lying position and concentrate on developing flexibility and strengthening abdominal, back and leg muscles.

Dance

Jazz ballet movements to music.
